Hey Python programmers and Data Nerds! Once again, CHAOSS and GrimoireLab is part of Google Summer of Code: A three months paid program held during summer where students have the opportunity to improve their programming skills and get experience within Open Source

Why CHAOSS and Grimoirelab for GSoC?

CHAOSS and GrimoireLab (CHAOSS core projects) is aimed at improving our understanding of open source health and sustainability.

GrimoireLab has become a reference within Open Source and InnerSource software development analytics. The project is part of The Linux Foundation CHAOSS (Community Health Analytics for Open Source Software) and the InnerSource Commons projects. The developer community contributing and using GrimoireLab include from open source foundations like The Linux Foundation or Mozilla Foundation to well known open source companies like Red Hat or companies relying on open source technologies or inner source methodologies like Uber or Autodesk.

Participants gain valuable experience working and contributing directly with open source projects during summer break. Our mentors Alberto, Miguel Angel and Valerio and Jesús will help the selected candidates during the whole program.

These are some of the benefits participants can get when joining GrimoireLab and CHAOSS developer team:

  • Contribute to Open Source: Software is eating up the labor market. Since the software development industry has declared Open Source as key for their success, more developers and companies engage in open source every year because it is cost efficient, it enables rapid innovation, and it promotes open standards. Open source is becoming the default for software development.
  • Get professional experience: Students will be working in a real cutting edge company with international spirit and a strong commitment with Open Source
  • Work with ElasticSearch and Kibana: two popular tools largely used in industry which daily help users and companies to store, analyze and visualize their data
  • Improve your Python skills: GrimoireLab is written mostly in Python, which is one of the top 3 programming languages used nowadays, highly demanded by companies

How can I participate?

This year, students can choose among 4 projects to participate in. Applications open March 25, 2019 at 19:00 (Central European Standard Time). You can learn more about CHAOSS and Grimoirelab and read our guidance for submitting a proposal here

Remember to send your proposal before April 9! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Good luck developers!
